Friends used same builder but, somehow, we got the cheap concrete fiberglass siding that was being discontinued at the time and later subject of a class action, while friends got the James Hardie. Windstorm took out one short piece and we looked to replace it. But inspection revealed original siding was not installed well, was cracking all over, and just needed to be replaced.
